Updated September 2026: The Gero Card is live, and GeroWallet itself changed substantially in 2026. The card lets eligible users top up from ADA, converts the value to euros and uses conventional card-payment infrastructure for spending.
How Does the Gero Card Work?
Gero’s terms describe it as a prepaid payment card. ADA can be converted to EUR for card spending. The card is issued by Satchel.eu, a licensed Lithuanian electronic-money institution; SmartAtlas manages card-program services and Kaiserex handles crypto-to-euro conversion.
Is GeroWallet Still Non-Custodial?
The wallet is non-custodial, but topping up a payment card necessarily moves value into the card/payment flow. “Self-custody wallet” should therefore not be confused with every stage of a fiat card transaction being on-chain or self-custodial.
Availability
Gero currently says virtual cards are available globally except the United States, while physical cards ship to European addresses. Eligibility and regions can change.
What Changed with GeroWallet 2.7?
GeroWallet 2.7 shipped in August 2026 with open-source code under Apache 2.0, a rebuilt interface, Midnight mainnet support with DUST generation, its own swap aggregator and additional security work. Some headline features roll out gradually behind feature flags.
Card Fees
The old zero-fee launch promotion ended on August 1, 2026. Current costs and $GERO-based fee waivers should be checked in the live card terms before ordering or spending.
