Updated September 2026: Midnight mainnet is live, but permissionless NIGHT block rewards are not live yet. Midnight currently uses a federated validator phase with no block rewards. The published tokenomics nevertheless plans for Cardano Stake Pool Operators to participate in Midnight block production later, with NIGHT distributed from a protocol-managed reserve as block-production rewards.
What this means for ZEIT delegators: ZEITGEIST intends to participate in Midnight block production when the permissionless SPO phase becomes available. If the final protocol and reward mechanics make it possible for ZEIT to share additional NIGHT incentives with its Cardano delegators, our intention is to pass that benefit on. This is a plan, not a current or guaranteed reward.
Can You Earn ADA and NIGHT by Staking with ZEIT?
Today, delegating ADA to ZEIT earns normal Cardano staking rewards according to Cardano protocol rules. It does not automatically earn NIGHT. The opportunity we are preparing for is the future Midnight block-producer model.
Midnight’s published tokenomics says NIGHT will be used to reward block production and explicitly describes a role for Cardano SPOs. Midnight has already tested SPO-based block production on its public testnet. Mainnet launched first with permissioned/federated validators, and the official FAQ says those validators currently receive no block rewards.
ZEIT’s Plan
- Continue operating ZEIT as an independent Cardano Single Pool.
- Follow Midnight’s transition toward permissionless block production.
- Prepare to participate as a Midnight block producer when the production rules allow it.
- Evaluate the final NIGHT reward mechanics as soon as they are published.
- If technically and economically possible, use additional Midnight incentives to benefit ZEIT delegators rather than presenting them as an operator-only bonus.
No Fake Double-Rewards Promise
There is currently no official mechanism that makes every ADA delegation automatically earn NIGHT. Any page claiming that this is already happening is outdated. The potential is real; the final delegator-reward mechanism is not yet confirmed.
Why Cardano SPOs Matter to Midnight
Midnight’s architecture is designed to make use of Cardano’s established stake-pool ecosystem as it decentralizes block production. That makes experienced independent SPOs relevant to Midnight’s future security model and creates a potential new incentive layer around NIGHT.
